How to Layer

Choose your base. A mid-weight base layer is ideal for most purposes. Fabric produced from merino sheep’s wool has surged in popularity in recent years for its natural moisture-wicking and anti-odor properties. Brands like Icebreaker and Ibex have pioneered merino wool, though many brands now offer merino wool base layers. You may also choose a synthetic fabric for base layers. These typically take advantage of drying quickly, and often, though not necessarily, they could have a cheaper cost than their wool counterparts.

Add a mid-layer. The mid-layer, including cheap cute baby clothes, adds insulation to help retain heat that the body creates and is worn between the bottom layer and outer jacket if needed. It’s also the layer you will frequently placed on, remove, or swap for another thing to suit the current weather and the activity. Mid-layers may be anything from fleece pullovers, zips, insulated jackets or vests. Fleece is known for its comfort, but it’s not totally all the same as it comes in various weights, including thin small-grid to plush Sherpa. Additionally, there are hybrid mid-layer options that provide some mixture of insulation and fleece or insulation and softshell.

Top it off having an outer shell. The outer shell may be the layer that will protect your son or daughter from rain and snow. It should be windproof, waterproof, and breathable. Here is the layer made of the very technologically advanced materials. Most shells protect from weather and let other layers do the insulating, while some shells include their insulation of varying thickness. Down, or the typical puffy coat, is incredibly warm and works ideal for really cold days when there isn’t rain or snow in the forecast but isn’t usually waterproof, while some down jackets have a hydrophobic coating. Another selection for an outer shell is a softshell that is present in most boys’toddler clothing. They are incredibly breathable and are great for very active winter activities like skiing or snowshoeing.

Hands, heads, and feet

The feet in many cases are the first ever to make a young child call « uncle » and rush inside. Just remember that dry feet are warm feet. When choosing your child’s winter boots, don’t rush the decision. Ensure the boot is waterproof, insulated, easy to obtain on and off and virtually impenetrable to the elements. Air the boots with fleece or wool liners, as well as cozy wool or synthetic socks. Never underestimate socks! Don’t let your son or daughter even consider stepping outside with socks from the incorrect season, too short or uncomfortable. Mittens are warmer than gloves but make sure that your choice features a waterproof outer layer.

Protect your son or daughter from catching a cool by getting clothes from Popopieshop and layering them accordingly.
